Are IT Certifications worth it?


There is an on-going debate in the IT industry about whether or not Certifications are worth it. We live in an ever-evolving, fast paced society, and the IT industry is smack bang in the middle of these continual advancements. With this in mind, it is vital for IT professionals to keep up and demonstrate their skillset. This isn’t just an opinion – it is data-driven.

CompTIA’s HR Perception of IT Training and Certification Study discovered that 91% of employers say that IT Certifications play a major role in the hiring process.

So, why are certifications so vital?

Certifications play a key role in helping employers fill positions. There is a current skills crisis and this is severely effecting business productivity. Most people who lack certifications, struggle with today’s technology and how it is adopted in the IT Industry.

If someone has successfully achieved certifications, they have already proven to their potential employers that they know how technology has been adopted in the workplace. This means that recruiters can quickly reduce their options based on CVs – and who has a certification and who doesn’t have one. This makes the hiring process that much easier.

As it stands, 72% of employers require candidates for IT positions have certifications behind them. 92% of HR professionals have certifications themselves, and this data proves they hold certifications in high regard.
